He expressd the Virginia pattern to arm its people against England. On April 19, 1775, the Battle of Lexington ignited the new War. He was recognized as one of the most convincing figures in Virginia politics because he uses Ethos, Logs, and Pathos in his speech. In Patrick Henrys speech to the Virginia Convention he apply Aristotles rhetorical devices to persuade the members of the Virginia Convention to take up arms against Great Britain. In the Beginning of the Speech to the Virginia Convention, Patrick Henry used Ethos in his speech to show loot and persuade his audience. For example, he said, Mr. prexy: No homo thinks more than highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who give way just intercommunicate the House.
